- UV systems for microbial reduction are generally rated for achieving a reduction of 99.99% (log 4) for all microbial species which are susceptible up to a UV dosage of 30,000 uws/cm2. This is considering the water entering the UV system is at ambient temperature, has a UV absorption coefficient of 0.1 and the unit is operated at the rated water flow rate.
- The UV dose requirement for achieving ozone reduction is 90,000 uws/cm2 per ppm of free ozone. The UV dose requirement for achieving reduction of TOC from water is 1, 20,000 uws/cm2 minimum.
- The UV lamps used are different than those used for microbial reduction.
